Egyptian Protesters Celebrate Democracy with “Brutal and Sustained Sexual Assault” of CBS News Reporter

While the Left celebrates the chaos in Egypt – which began with riots in which 60 women were raped and the Egyptian Museum was looted – rational observers have warned that the fundamentalist Islamist population is not looking for western style democracy. The Left claims that is “Islamophobia” on our part, because the Egyptian protesters want American-style freedom.
You know, like the freedom to form a mob and sexually assault a reporter while she’s on-air:
On Friday, Feb. 11, the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a “60 Minutes” story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.
In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.
I assume we’ll see CBS start to support the military governance of Egypt now. These are Muslim men celebrating their freedom and hundreds of them did so by raping women. Not that when they were supposedly oppressed they acted differently. Coptic Christians have been publicly complaining about Muslims kidnapping and raping Coptic girls then forcing the girls to marry their attackers since 1979. Even Muslim women have begun speaking out about the culture of sexual harassment that permeates Egypt.
That is when they’re not advocating for Arab men to sexually abuse Jewish women as a form of political activism.
As bad as Mubarak’s Egypt was I see no reason to celebrate the fall of his government. Egypt is not full of lefties who wish they could get some fair trade coffee while updating their Twitter status. It’s full of people who think a man who took women as war booty was not only a prophet, but was the perfect man created by the one true god.
I’m a Reaganite Republican. I believe that all humankind is born with the right to be free and I think America has a moral responsibility to support freedom worldwide. But in Egypt and any majority Muslim country, democracy does not create freedom; even Bush Doctrine supporters like me have been forced to admit that. A Kemalist-style Republic, as imperfect as that would be, is the best that can be hoped for in any country with a majority Muslim country until some sort of Islamic Reformation happens that pushes Muslim people into the 21st century.
Until then the assault on Lara Logan reminds us that the Muslim mob cannot be allowed to rule. Women and non-Muslims will suffer under the new Egyptian regime to a greater extent than they did under Mubarak’s control. Until Muslims embrace the Republican ideal of equality for all citizens in a secular country that is ruled by secular laws, all Muslim revolutions will be destabilizing events that create barbaric states that threaten their own people and the world.
