Eiskogel from https://oe5akm.tumblr.com/
Date : 4.3.2020
Activity: Mountain tour on the Eiskogel (1087 m, JN77AV, SOTA / GMA); Descent largely like ascent
Start and finish: Steinbach am Ziehberg / parking lot on the Ziehberg pass at Grassnerkreuz
Total duration: 6:00 hours
Path: often only sparsely signposted / marked side and forest roads, forest and meadow paths
Weather: everything from sunshine to sleet showers with single-digit degrees; very windy at the summit
Amateur radio: Yaesu FT1XDE with original spiral antenna; Max. 5 W FM at 2 m and 70 cm
QRV on the Eiskogel (1087 m, JN77AV, SOTA / GMA): Good VHF location! QSOs on simplex frequencies with Franz, OE5FSL; Heinz, OE5HDN; Val, OE5VJO; Joe, OE5JJL; Marcel, OE5AMR and most recently namesake Alfred, OE5TOP.
Steinbach am Ziehberg: Ziehberg-Passhöhe car park at Grassnerkreuz From the nearby bus station, I first follow the signpost towards Gasthaus Rühler (Kronbauer freight route). After leaving the asphalt road, the first views of the Kremstal open up. Shortly afterwards the first sleet of sleet overtakes me. Kronbauer homestead Radio masts grow here like mushrooms. Up at the edge of the forest The direction is right. Signpost in the winter Eiskogel (1084 m) Good VHF location; despite the strong wind, I stay at the summit for a long time. Descent into the “end of the world” Looking back at Kronbauer and Eiskogel Teleview of Micheldorf The car is waiting.
