- Marxist writer and professor at Duke University
- Member of DukeDivest
- Co-author of convicted terrorist Antonio Negri
Michael Hardt, professor of literature and romance studies at Duke University, is a member of DukeDivest, which describes itself as “a group of concerned students, faculty, staff, and alumni calling upon Duke University to [support the crusade to] end all military ties to the state of Israel.” DukeDivest’s precepts are strewn with inaccurate information regarding the Israeli/Palestinian conflict; the group sides solely with the Palestinians, notwithstanding their ongoing campaign of terror against Israeli civilians. Hardt's perspective is Marxist. He is the co-author of “Empire,” a Marxist discourse on globalization, which is an attempt to update Lenin's Imperialism. His writing partner is Antonio Negri, a convicted terrorist serving a 13-year prison sentence in Italy. Hardt now teaches Duke’s “Marxism & Society” program with the post-modernist and Maoist, Frederic Jameson, the literature department chair. Hardt and Negri’s work is standard assignment in many classes not only at Duke, but also at other schools across the United States.
