- Convicted murderer
William “Teko” Harris was a founding member of the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA), a domestic terrorist group of the 1970s.
The son of an Air Force lieutenant, Harris enlisted with the Marines in 1965. After a combat-free tour of duty, he returned to Indiana and joined the group Vietnam Veterans Against the War and became a Maoist. He met and married Emily Montague (who he would later divorce) while earning a Masters degree in theater at Indiana University. The Harrises followed Angela Atwood to San Francisco, where they became involved with the SLA.
On November 7, 2002, William Harris and three of his cohorts, including his by-then ex-wife Emily, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing Myrna Opsahl during an April 1975 bank robbery in Carmichael, California. Harris was sentenced to seven years in prison.
